Billy reached down and picked up the strange glowing rock. He held it gently in his hand and marveled as shafts of emerald light emanated from the mysterious visitor from space. Billy wondered how it could be so cold to the touch so soon after crashing to the earth. "That's odd," he muttered to himself softly. An eerie crackling sound came from the egg-shaped rock as Billy turned it gently in his hands.

"Be careful, Billy," warned his friend, "something is happening!" The taller boy reached out and swatted the unearthly orb from Billy's hand. They watched as it tumbled through the air and landed in the mud with a thud.

Billy blinked and shook his head as if waking from a daydream. Both boys stood transfixed, watching the little green egg pulsating in the swampy earth below. The egg gave a wiggle and the sound of crunching egg shells was heard as light began to shoot out from the ever-widening crack spreading around its circumference. Both boys looked at each other and bent down for a closer look.

That is when it happened. . .
