The Texas Cavaliers’ Art Contest is a wonderful and exciting opportunity for students to render their artistic talents, while vying for a $1,000 check that will purchase art supplies for their school and a scholarship for one full-week of Summer Art Camp at Southwest School of Art.

Each year, on the first Monday night of Fiesta, thousands of people gather along the banks of the San Antonio River to watch the Texas Cavaliers’ River Parade. Cheers fill the air as the brightly decorated floats dazzle the crowds. We invite you to capture the excitement and spirit of this year’s River Parade through your colorful and creative artwork, depicting this year’s theme:

2013 TEXAS CAVALIERS’

RIVER PARADE

ART CONTEST

WHO: FIRST through FIFTH graders in all public schools in the San Antonio area

WHAT: Art Contest Participants will submit a drawing depicting this year’s theme: “STARS ON THE RIVER”

HOW: Entries are to be drawn vertically (portrait-style) on a sheet of white paper 8 ½” by 11”,

with crayons, markers, colored pencils or water colors. PLEASE NOTE: ALL ENTRIES MUST INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION WRITTEN LEGIBLY ON THE BACK OF THE ARTWORK: (1) STUDENT’S NAME; (2) TEACHER’S NAME; (3) GRADE LEVEL; (4) SCHOOL AND DISTRICT’S NAME. All artwork will become the property of the Texas Cavaliers for display around the city.

WHEN: Schools interested in participating in the Art Contest should send an email to

mcasillas@sasurgicalarts.com by no later than January 11, 2013. Please include your

name, position, contact information and the name of your school.

The deadline for submission of artwork is FEBRUARY 1, 2013. All submissions are to be

2013 River Parade Art Contest

WHY: There will be eleven finalists, each of whom shall receive $1,000 to go towards their

school’s art supplies and an art scholarship of one full-week of Summer Art Camp at

Southwest School of Art. The Grand Prize winner (selected from among the 11 finalists)

will:

Have his/her artwork featured on the cover of the 2013 Texas Cavaliers’ River Parade Program, which is distributed to ticket holders free of charge;
Receive an award from King Antonio to be given at the Arneson River Theatre ceremony, broadcast live on television;
Receive free River Parade tickets for his/her parents and siblings.
