Here is something fun.  Look over these websites and decide which main text structure each follows then check your answers on the page below.  Turn in your paper to your teacher.


  1. Chronological -  The writing is organized by time periods.
  2. Compare and Contrast -  The writing compares two subjects and then contrasts them.
  3. Order of Importance - The writing describes subjects in order of importance.
  4. Sequence - The writing is organized in order of events.
  5. Spatial - The writing describes the subject with words like: above that,  behind that, etc  (ex describing a volcano)
  6. Cause and Effect - The writing describes a cause and then describes its effect.
  7. Problem and Solution -  The writing presents a problem and then presents a solution to that problem
